First International Congress on Archaeology and Changing Environment in the Pacific

Join researchers and practitioners from around the world for this international congress exploring the relationship between archaeological heritage and environmental change across Pacific regions.

Set in Chile’s renowned Colchagua Valley, this venue offers a unique setting that combines academic exchange with rich cultural heritage. The congress will address five key themes: Archaeology of Islands, Cultural Changes, Climate and Environment, Coastal Archaeology and Paleoenvironmental Reconstruction.

Update: Scientific Research Center Pasifika – Chile

We are pleased to share progress on the establishment of the Scientific Research Center Pasifika - Chile on Rapa Nui—the first multidisciplinary research centre of its kind on the island.

The Centre is envisioned as:

-A hub for cultural preservation and education
-A base for environmental and scientific research
-An inclusive space for community learning and global engagement

Initial private funding has already supported land acquisition and early construction materials.

The Centre is designed to be financially self-sustaining through a combination of research, education, and visitor engagement.

Planned facilities include:

-Laboratory for advancing research
-Museum & exhibition space for knowledge sharing
-Café & community hub to foster connection and revenue
-Researcher accommodation to support collaboration
-Outdoor learning spaces and a greenhouse rooted in traditional land practices


We are currently seeking partners who recognize the global importance of preserving cultural and environmental heritage. An additional USD $500,000 is needed to complete construction and core infrastructure.

$50,000+ — Major construction phases
$100,000+ — Core facilities establishment

The mission of the Foundation is to protect and care for the natural and cultural heritage of the island through the design and execution of scientific research that generates useful information both for the understanding and care of the Polynesian culture and for facing the adversities caused by climate change, in order to protect the heritage for future generations.

The Foundation seeks to be influential in the generation of scientific information at the Oceanic level, creating spaces for exchange with scholars from other parts of the world, generating dialogue and reflection to achieve ideas of social development and sustainable heritage protection.
